2011 World Cup toss was done twice.

13 Years of World Cup 2011

Everyone recalls India's victory in the exciting World Cup of Cricket in 2011. Full of breathtaking performances, emotional twists and turns, and an iconic finish  that will live on forever in cricket history.

On April 2, 2011, India and Sri Lanka faced off in the ICC Cricket World Cup final, creating a cricketing saga unlike anything else seen at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium.

And it's been 13 years since that day, a day filled with Gambhir's grit, Yuvraj's great knock, and Dhoni's delight, reliving India's victory in the 2011 Cricket World Cup.

So today I will tell you the one unknown story that is unheard by most cricket fans.
In the 2011 World Cup final, the coin was tossed twice.

The confusion was caused by crowd noise at a packed Wankhede Stadium, according to a conversation between Ravichandran Ashwin and Sangakkara (former captain of Sri Lanka at the 2011 World Cup) on Instagram chat.

"I was standing in the dressing room when I saw two tosses. I went inside and I didn't have an answer for the coach," asked Ashwin. What then was it? What  happened?
Sangakkara said "I believe it was the crowd; it was a big one." It only happened to me once, at Eden Gardens in India, when I was unable to hear myself talk to the first slip, and that was naturally during the 2011 World Cup final at Wankhede in Mumbai. It has never happened in Sri Lanka though.

In actuality, both MS Dhoni and Kumar Sangakkara believed they had won the toss on the opening try. Even after Sangakkara was declared the winner by referee Jeff Crowe, MS Dhoni said "Let's have another toss of the coin. And the toss was redone and Sri Lanka won this time.
