The Many Shades of White

 The Many Shades of White

When I was a child, full of wonder and light,
I claimed my favorite was the color white.
Not from choice, but from what I had heard,
My father once spoke that single word.

So white it was, by his gentle decree,
A shade I admired, though vaguely, carefree.
But years moved on, and life took its flight,
And now I see why I truly love white.

White is the canvas where passion gets shown,
A backdrop that lets every triumph be known.
It fades to the back so that others can gleam,
The quiet supporter of every bold dream.

Of healing, of power, of spirit set free,
Of silence, of balance, of calmness in me.
It’s coldness and warmth, both holding their place,
A mirror of life with its intricate grace.

It's the color of peace, of beginnings brand new,
Of wisdom in hair as the seasons pass through.
Of prophecy deep and of judgment so grand,
The great white throne where destinies stand.

It’s cricket, the Test, where legends are made,
In whites they battle, in sun and in shade.
Each soil-marked jersey, each dive in the dirt,
Tells a story of effort, of struggle, of hurt.

White is the blankness where stories begin,
Of failure, of learning, of soul forged within.
Independent and stern, yet graceful and fair,
With a strong inner compass that’s always aware.

I love the white clouds in the vast blue sky,
Like soft drifting thoughts that quietly fly.
White is my favorite, I say it out loud,
It lifts me like wind, it wraps me like cloud.

Scientifically, it's every hue,
A spectrum united, all blended through.
But mix them in paint, and try as you might,
You’ll never quite capture the purity of white.

It's more than a color, it’s lessons and lore,
And each passing day, I’m finding it more.
Perhaps tomorrow will further unveil
Another white truth through life’s wandering trail.

So here I stand, both grown and a child,
With a heart that remembers, both tender and wild.
Still loving that color, with deeper insight,
Not just for my father, but for all that is white.
