"The Gentleman's Blade"

The Gentleman's Blade

For Kane Williamson

In whites, in blues, in fiery black,
With willow calm, he takes attack.

Be it five days or just twenty overs,
He plays the game like silent thunder.

A poet’s touch, a thinker’s pace,
Across all formats, he brings grace.

He stands apart in this great sport,
A man of class, of quiet sort.

And though the world may shout and cheer,
He lets his silence draw them near.

His blade, a brush, his shots, like a art,
He plays the field with patient heart.

No flash, no rage, no need to boast,
Yet often he delivers most.

He’s the player none can bring to spite,
The calmest soul beneath the light.

No borders hold the love he's earned,
From every fan, respect is returned.

A true gentleman, pure and wide,
With grace that cuts through every side.

I’ve long admired Dhoni's reign,
The calm, the mind, the fire restrained.

But after him, it's Kane I see,
Reflecting all I wish to be.

In Kane I find that same pure thread,
A leader, calm in what lies ahead.

His smile, his poise, his selfless grace
A quiet hero on the world’s grand stage.

And who could forget that final day,
The 2019 World Cup fray?

The rules were cruel, the glory torn,
Yet Kane stood tall, though battle-worn.

A smile he wore, through heartbreak deep,
A moment carved where memories keep.

And in my heart, through all the pain,
He won that cup in spirit’s name.

A leader calm, composed, and wise,
With steady hands and watchful eyes.

The weight of black upon his chest,
He makes the Kiwi spirit rest.

Kane, the silent knight,
Who leads with grace, and not with might.

My second star, forever true,
A gentleman in all he’d do.

Still reeling from Kane's masterclass, his greatness on and off the field is truly inspiring. As a fan, it's been an honor to celebrate his greatness and I hope this poem does justice to his legendary game!

Until the next boundary......Thanks for reading!!
